Billing & Fees
What's your insurance situation?
We are in-network with some dental PPO plans. Please verify with your insurance company if we are in-network with your specific policy. Most plans also have out-of-network benefits, so you’re likely to get some coverage at our office even if we are not in-network with your policy.
When you book an appointment, we will request your dental insurance information. We will work with your insurance company to get as much information as possible about your plan details. Your out-of-pocket payment is the difference between the office fees for your services and what we expect your insurance to pay us on your behalf. We will bill or refund you if the actual payment from your insurance is different than our estimate.
If your plan is not expected to cover 100% of the visit, we ask you for payment at the time of service for the amount your insurance is not expected to cover.
What are your fees?
Without seeing you and your x-rays it’s impossible to give you an accurate estimate for your treatment at our office. But here are ballpark amounts for some of our more common procedures, and what the out-of-pocket cost might be for those with dental insurance:
- New patient comprehensive care visit with x-rays, exam, and cleaning
- Our usual fee: $527
- What a typical patient with insurance might pay out-of-pocket: $0-$50
- Problem-focused exam and x-rays
- Our usual fee: $157
- What a typical patient with insurance might pay out-of-pocket: $0-$50
- Filling (cost varies due to location in the mouth and size of filling)

- Crown (cost varies due to type and material)
- Our usual fee: $1,750
- What a typical patient with insurance might pay out-of-pocket: $250-$800
- Dentures (cost varies due to type and material)
- Our usual fee: $865-$2,800
- What a typical patient with insurance might pay out-of-pocket: $600-$1,400
- Invisalign (cost varies due to complexity of the case)
- Our usual fee: $4,000-$6,000
- What a typical patient with insurance might pay out-of-pocket: $2,500-$6,000
- Implant placement and restoration per tooth
- Our usual fee: $4,500-$5,500
- What a typical patient with insurance might pay out-of-pocket: $2,000-$5,500
Once we get your insurance plan details, we can estimate more precisely your out-of-pocket payment, if any, for the first visit. If there is enough time before your appointment, we can send a pre-treatment authorization to your insurance company that will let you know the exact amount that will be owed, if anything.
What to Expect
Do you see kids?
Yes! The entire PenBay Dental team loves kids, many of us have kids, and the office is as kid-friendly as a dental office can be. And we have great prizes (kid tested and kid approved.)
Dr. Bouchard is not a board-certified pediatric dentist, but she has a lot of experience treating kids of all ages, and even has three rugrats of her own.
As long as the kid will sit in the chair (by themselves or in a caregiver’s lap) and let us work, we’re happy to see them in our office at any age. If your child is dental-phobic, or has trouble behaving for dental visits unsedated, we are happy to recommend a great pediatric dentist (although the closest ones are in Augusta and Brunswick).
What will happen on my first visit?
We’re looking forward to it!
If you’re here for a comprehensive exam and cleaning, our staff will start by doing some information gathering with x-rays and photos of all your teeth, and an exam of your teeth and gums (including an oral cancer screening).
We’ll discuss any concerns you have, as well as your goals for your teeth and oral health. We’ll then proceed with your cleaning. Depending on your gum health, the amount of plaque and tartar buildup you have, and the type of cleaning indicated to restore your mouth to optimal health, we may be able to complete your cleaning at this first visit, or we may need additional appointments to finish more extensive periodontal therapies.
We will develop a comprehensive treatment plan factoring in your goals, your oral conditions, your budget, and any other factors important to you. We tell you what we see, the options you have to fix any problems, and ways you can achieve your stated goals. We can approach your treatment plan as quickly or slowly as you would like; it’s your mouth, your decision, and your call. No pressure.
If you’re here for a specific problem, we will start with some x-rays, photos, and an exam of the area giving you trouble. We will diagnose the issue, and let you know your options to fix the problem, as well as the estimated out-of-pocket cost. We can often get started with treatment at this visit, if you choose to do so.
If you’re here for a consultation or second opinion, we will review any x-rays you can provide, take new ones if necessary, take photos, and do a thorough exam of the specific issue area. We always give our honest opinion about your dental condition, your treatment options, and what approach we recommend given your goals and budget. People schedule consultations for a variety of issues ranging from cosmetic improvements, to Invisalign, to implants, to dentures, to full-mouth rehabilitation.
Financing Options
I don't have insurance. What are my financing options?
We offer in-house financing on a case-by-case basis for treatment plans over $2,000.
We can help get you set up with a third-party lender, such as Care Credit, to make achieving your oral health goals attainable.
